I'm Gail Straub and you're listening to She Explores. This episode is a continuation on the last,

adventuring with kids, part two.

My name is Lynn D'Oring and I'm a single mom living in Washington, D.C. They call these

years the lost years, these years when you have young kids at home. Before you have

kids during the first years of adulthood, that's when you find yourself.

That's the time you figure out who you are.

It's your time and the most important question you ask yourself is, who do I want to be? When you have kids everything changes.

Your life isn't really your own anymore. Everything is suddenly all about them. Are they

healthy? Are they happy? Oh my God, did I scar them for life?

Somewhere between documenting their first smiles, their first steps, their first day of school,

all their important moments. You lose yourself. I have two daughters, the oldest

is seven and the youngest just turned four. I love my girls, but I don't love being lost.

After my divorce, I found my old high school journal.

There was a list of mountains I would climb.

And I thought, yes, I need that. I need to find a path. I need to get to the top of something.
