But the women and children on that border that are trying to seek refuge and seek opportunity

in the United States of America with nothing but the shirt on their backs are acting more

American than any person who seeks to keep them out ever will be.

The 11 million people living in the shadows, I believe, are already American citizens.

These people are just waiting, waiting for a chance to be able to contribute fully.

And by that standard, 11 million undocumented aliens are already Americans in my view.

50% of the elder here workers in the state of New Jersey are immigrants, most of the people,

most of them documented, but certainly some who are not, who do you think is mowing our beautiful

minds in some of the accounts?

We need to show humanity with respect to people who are working, contributing right now and

deporting them, leaving their children alone or deporting an adolescent doing anything that

is so contrary to our core values just makes no sense.

Regardless of how they came, the overwhelming majority of these folks are just trying to earn

a living.

I want us to use our uniquely human capacity to empathize with them.

We have lost hundreds of human lives at the United States, Mexico border, people desperate

to come here and yes to do better for themselves, but to do better for all of us.

This city has always been a sanctuary for every city and we've always managed those who

wanted to come to a New York City to pursue the American dream.

The great number of people that come here to this country come because they have no opportunities

in other places.

They may love their country, but they come here because they want to provide for their
