Summary

Ever since Claire inherited a house from a biological family she never knew, things have begun to change. It isn’t just that the house is full of cryptic notebooks, ominous scribblings on the wall, and a creepy basement. Claire is… off. She’s sleepwalking, saying weird things, and becoming irritable and secretive. And as she gets closer to the secret at the heart of the old house in the Toronto neighborhood of Parkdale, she begins to lose herself in it. After Claire goes missing, her best friends begin sifting through the recordings of their unedited podcast attempt, Yes! In My Backyard, to see if there’s any clues as to what happened. But what they find is something better left untouched. Parkdale Haunt is about friendship and identity, trauma, cults, demons, and, most frighteningly, the Toronto real estate market. 0:08.0	My name is Judith Antony, and my best friend Claire Sturbach has disappeared.
0:15.0	Okay, just to clarify, she's still alive and apparently she's fine.
0:21.6	But all this started in mid-2018 when she took possession of a house in the Parkdale
0:26.6	neighborhood of Toronto.
0:28.6	We decided, hey, let's make a fun podcast, maybe some YouTube videos about the Renno's and like the attempted DIY stuff.
0:35.6	You know, all the half-ass plans that people make and only keep like 45% of the time.
0:42.2	But things started to get kind of weird.
0:46.4	In all honesty, parts of her life were starting to unravel, but I don't think that was it.
0:53.2	I think it was the house.
0:55.6	Something is seriously wrong with that place.
0:59.1	And if I was just coming into this now, I'd guess it was radon or carbon monoxide poisoning or lead in the water or whatever.
1:06.4	I would even say that maybe she had been having some sort of episode, but that's not it.
1:12.2	Something less rational is the main problem here, and now Claire is gone, and she's taken off,
1:19.7	and now I don't know what to do.
1:22.4	And to be honest, it feels like sometime in the interim she became someone else, and I'm worried.
1:30.8	So in early January 2019, she left the city without even telling me where she was going,
1:36.7	she hasn't returned calls, texts, anything. And I know she's alive because she's reached out
1:41.9	to her parents and they say she's okay, but like I said, something more sinister is going on, and what I hope to do is to put together
1:49.2	all the bits and pieces and figure out what happened.
