Some sources say that Panam was founded as a shell company by two US Air Force officers in 1927.

Henry Hap Arnold, Carl Spats, and John Juay founded the company because they were concerned

about a German-owned Colombian air carrier, Skatda, which had been lobbying hard for landing rights in the Panama Canal Zone.
