Pakistan and Iran agreed to normalize diplomatic ties

following last week's tit-for-tat missile strikes that saw tensions spiral and

relations between the neighbors plunged to a new low.

I welcome the former ambassador from Pakistan to the United States now a senior fellow at the

Hudson Institute, Hiseen O'Connor-Kani, writing most recently at the Hill about this surprising exchange of

war fighting between Pakistan and Iran.

Mr. Ambassador, a very good evening to you.

The Bloomberg reports the metaphor of relations thawing, but 20 minutes ago there was a freeze,

I suppose, carrying through on the metaphorical language.

What do we know of the strike decision by Iran into Pakistan?

What was the target and was it surprising that the strike would incur a response immediately

from the Pakistani army? Good evening. One thing is certain, Iran did not expect a response from Pakistan.

I think whoever planned the strike just thought that it is time to show Iranian power in every direction. That is why the time

in the strike in a way in which it came in the same cycle of strikes as the ones in

Syria, Iraq, and Pakistan.
