I go immediately to Jeff Bliss' specific watch.

0:26.9

This is the wildfire report.

0:29.2

Jeff tells me it's early in the season,

0:31.1

but we're keen on where and how California responds to this year's fires,

0:36.9

given the catastrophe of the Los Angeles conflagrations.

0:42.2

Jeff, a very good evening to you.

0:43.8

You tell me there are two you're watching, Garnett and Salt.

0:46.9

Where are they?

0:48.5

The Garnett fire is in Fresno County, so that's right smack in the middle of the state

0:53.7

toward the eastern side of the

0:55.1

state. And the other one is the salt fire, the salt 142 fire. And that's in Fresno and Monterey County.

1:22.6

That's 27% contained, which is a much better number, but still far short of 50% of course and is a fire that will be of concern for a while.

1:33.4

So I'm keeping my eye on both of those. They're both in fairly remote areas. There are some residents that live in those areas.

1:41.5

They've been evacuated. They've been warned to evacuate if they're not

1:44.4

already gone. But the problem is these fires can keep spreading out. They're in a very,

1:49.6

they're very rich with, you know, vegetation, dead vegetation. The topography is very difficult

1:55.8

for firefighters, hard to get to, hard to fight fires in steep and narrow canyons.

2:06.7

So one of the best things we can hope for is if we can, you know, get some humidity going and make sure the winds don't pick up, those will all be pluses.
