What is San Diego and what does this balloon potentially threaten? Good evening to you.

Good evening, John.

San Diego, besides being a, you know, the home of great tourist spots, great beaches, thriving businesses, is a major naval area for the US.

It's been a major Navy base area since, you know, before World War II.

And you've got four major bases there.

You've got naval base point Loma.

And there's North Island Air, Naval Air Station, Navy base San Diego.

And you even have Coronado, which is where the seals and special forces train.

And then a little bit in from there is the Miramar Naval Air Station, which is home to a Marine and Naval Air Fighter wings.

And so it's a very important military zone.

It has been for decades.

And, you know, the Pentagon did spot one of these balloons overhead.
