This is the Friends of History Debating Society. I'm John Batchel with my cricket teacher, Jeremy

Zackis, and we're looking forward to Ashes, the traditional battle between all England, the

palms, and all Australia, who are very good, Australia is a very good team. Jeremy and I have been

working under the impression

that the ashes is coming up this year

because it's supposed to be every 18 months.

But I did not take into account

that the hemispheres are in different seasons,

not evenly.

So it's 18 months when the last contest was in Australia. It's two years

when the last contest was in England. Therefore, there is an ashes in December of 24, but it's not the ashes that we thought.

It's a different kind of ashes.

It sounds quite interesting.

Jeremy, what is the blind ashes?

How does it work?

Yes, John, this is exactly as it sounds.

It's actually vision impaired ashes.

And what they do because of the fact that the ashes is actually two years after the last test because of the way that the English Northern and the Australian Southern Hemisphere's work, they put the

blind ashes in and the blind ashes is basically the British and the Australian

teams that play cricket, the vision impaired teams that play cricket normally at

test level, they come together for this Asher series.

And what it is is blind cricket is basically a form of cricket where these people who actually play have to be legally blind. So they can't drive cars. They can't basically participate in a lot of
