This is the Friends of History Debating Society. I'm John Bachelors back from his adventures and

the breaking news is that cricket comes to the Americas, not just the Americas, to the United States. Now cricket Jeremy has been teaching me for a couple

of years is a very different game than baseball. Baseball, the legend says, is a product of cricket during the Civil War when they didn't have

enough time to play a five-day match which is how cricket is supposed to be played with

tee time in between and everybody on a picnic basket

or everybody dressed in white very sociable that's the way cricket originally was played

So we come to the American version,

and suddenly there's mitts,

there's a ball made of horse, with horse hair in it.

There's a bat that doesn't resemble anything like a cricket bat.

They're not just two wickets, there's a home plate in three bases.

It changes everything, of course, but it's great fun

and it turns into a professional sport that today is as beautiful to watch as a ballet. That's baseball. Cricket, however, still remains what

appears to be its social roots. It's an opportunity for lots of conversation, not only on the pitch, but in the

stands or going to and fro. They travel from city to city, as the cricket I'm familiar with.

So you have days in between and other people can enjoy the match in another city.

It's all very happy. And Jeremy, that is not the game that's coming to America.

We're now emphasizing the T-20. What is T-20? What is it? What's the difference between T-20 and the five-day tests?

Well done really the difference is the length. So T-20 is the name implies is

actually 20 overs aside now an over in cricket is when you bowl six balls against the competitor and they have six chances to hit the ball basically and score runs. So in T20, each team you can think of it as getting 20 overs of batting to actually store those runs.

Whereas then when you get into the five days series or the World Cup cricket series, that is as it implies as well as actually five days of

cricket and effectively over those five days each team has to score enough runs on each day to basically win the day.
