This is the Friends of History Debating Society. I'm John Bachelor and Jeremy Zuckus, my cricket guide and

coaches here. There's been a decision in the World Cup T20. Well I get confused. There was a world

the summer of the US. Well I get confused. There was a world

championship that was played in India in a big stadium and

Australia won. That was a T-50 and Jeremy's going to help us understand the difference between a T-50, a T-20 and a five-day match.

Jeremy, this is the world champion for T-20.

Who won and what is T-20?

Well, John, I can reveal now that India has won the T20 against

South Africa in a a nail-biting final in reality India won by just seven runs in the T20 World Cup and T20 John is as the name suggests

the 20 actually refers to the number of overs and an over in cricket is is basically when a

bowl of all six balls to a batter in a single over and then the whole team changes and basically they start the process again.

So you have 20 of those per side bowling and batting batting which means that a T20 game is all over and

done with within the space of about four to five hours so it's actually referred to as

the baseball of cricket because it's so short and this is what India has won against South Africa. And it's no mean feat to win as well because you can imagine T20 being a shorter cricket game means it's much faster, much more ferocious and it means that the cricket players who may be used to playing five days series,

which I'll get to in a second, actually have to change from being say a marathon runner

to a sprinter basically in the way that they play. They have to play hard and fast.

A T50 game as you have mentioned there is actually what we also refer to as the one day series and

what that actually is is that both sides instead of only having 20 overs to actually bowl on that they actually have 50.

So while it's called a one day often those one days can actually go into a second day as well if either the light runs out or

basically the game just goes too long to complete in a single days and normally

those cricket games they're interesting but they can actually drag on a bit longer because it's not

over and done within four hours, and both sides typically are playing much more conservative because
