This is the Friends and History Debating Society. I'm John Bats with my good colleague Jeremy Zakas in New South Wales

Lockdown we all recognize a lockdown it happens when there's a tragic mass shooting or a lockdown

That was something associated with the pandemic now. We're going to a Queensland public school and a lockdown

But Jeremy what happened and what did they do about it?

Well John this is a lockdown with a difference that happened in Brisbane

So the capital city of Queensland at the Gap State School

So it's a very large public school there in Brisbane and basically what happened during the course of the school day there

The school went into a quick and sudden lockdown initially teaches around the school weren't quite sure what was happening

Students as well. They they had no idea what was happening and then it's the news soon filtered out

What had happened was that they'd seen an unusually large brown snake and great Eastern brown snake

They believe it was on the property and now this snake it wasn't just living through the problem was it was actually trying to

Get into some of the classrooms and the person who spotted immediately reported it which was the right thing

But then the snake disappeared for some time only to emerge again

I've probably about 15 20 minutes later

Which is why the lockdown was basically called because they needed to get a snake catcher on site to get this I guess rastly snake out of there

But honestly John it's it's not as silly as it sounds because schools in Queensland schools in South Australia and even here in New South Wales

Do from time to time get locked down from pro snakes because the unfortunate thing about schools as you can imagine

Lots of buildings lots of places where the snakes can hide and the problem is if you send all the kids out of the classrooms

Or try to send them home

Chances are one of the kids are going to come across that snake

So honestly John these lockdown they are quite traumatic and they they tend to last a long time because you try

And find a brown snake somewhere on a large you know a few hectare property worth of school amongst a whole bunch of kids
