Hello and welcome to the Scriptures or Real podcast. This is the podcast where we talk about

elements of the scriptures that have made them become more real to us because we believe that

helps us draw more power out of them and we need that in our lives today. I'm your host,

Kerry Mulestein, and this is a shortcaster. Basically, it's a short overview of

the first epistle to the Corinthians. The second epistle to the Corinthians, the overview

will be encased in, we'll go over the overview and the podcast discussion. It's actually long enough

that there will be two parts of that, but I'm trying for each of the epistles to have some kind of an overview for you. And sometimes that will just be part of the podcast, and sometimes

I'll do a separate one. So let's talk about the letter to the Corinthians and just make sure we

understand it. I think it's helpful to understand these things historically. So let's first of all talk about when Paul

first came to Corinth and a little bit about Corinth. So maybe we should first of all talk a little

bit about Corinth. Corinth is located on, well, it's part of Greece, but it's on an Istvas, a narrow part.

It's the narrowest part in between two parts of the ocean or the sea.

It's only about four miles wide at that point.

And so what that means is that eventually a road is built through there because it's easier, safer in terms of the voyage, faster in terms of the voyage, for ships to come to,

well, Corinth has two bays because it's on this isthmus with seas on either side.

So they can come to the bay on one side coming from Greece, you know, in the way that could go to Italy,

so they could say come from Italy to Corinth,

and then offload their goods, take them four miles across on wagons or something on this road, and then load onto a different ship that would head out towards Asia and so on, or Asia Minor.

So it became a very, very wealthy and very,

very prosperous city as a result of this and was inhabited by all sorts of sailors. Now you

know how that goes. And all sorts of trade was happening there. It also was well known for

its temple to Aphrodite and it had a lot of prostitutes at one point that was reported by Strabo
