Hey everybody, welcome to show this is Darren Alene. This is the Darren Alene show. My guest today is so freaking epic is the most decorated winter

Para Olympian in US history. Yep, Aksana Masters, her story, what she has gone through, she is here today and it's beyond

empowering. And the true lessons, man, the true lessons of resiliency, she embodies and then blows away

anything that I've seen and felt and heard in a really long time. Aksana was born in the Ukraine in 1989. I was graduating high school, so there you go that timeline.

The location and time of her birth was extremely significant because of the catastrophic events that occurred just three years earlier.

During the infamous Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster, no one could have ever known that that routine test at the plant would have the consequences for the epidemiologic expression

and the direct impact it had on this amazing being that was born at that time. The radiation had interesting effects on Aksana's development in utero.

She was born an otherwise healthy baby but had significant birth defects to her limbs and a few of her organs. She was born with six toes on each foot, five webbed fingers on each of her hands and no thumbs. Her left leg was six inches shorter. Both of her lower legs were missing, so she had no weight bearing bones at all.

But last but not least, her knee floated in a sea shape, so it was not very usable. Facing her adversity with grit and determination, Aksana became a multi-metalist, and we're going to unpack how she got from that to becoming this multi-metalist,

inspired, inspirational, dedicated, determined, individual, winning world championships,

Paralympic summer and winter sports, like she just chose to do, let's do the downhill, how many of these things I even forgot?

It's five or something other events that she all won in. So she is something that transcends all of her seemingly disabilities.

And this is what she had, and so she just turned all of that in, and it was an obstacle, and you can clearly see that in her life.

And so we're going to explore that, and a whole lot more in this next episode of the Darnalene Show.
