Very special guest today. His name is Devon Rouse. He's a 22-year-old, native Iowan.

He's a professional race car driver and he is an openly gay man.

And he has quite the impressive resume and quite the unique story when you hear about NASCAR

and you hear about professional race car driving. The term gay isn't usually associated with it.

And there's been done in a negative way or that might just be a stereotype.

But we have Devon on today because I wanted to talk to him a little bit about his story,

how he got to where he is and how he's able to succeed in an industry and a career

that is not typical for anyone, let alone a gay man. So Devon, welcome on in. How you doing?

You're behind the wheel right now, you lunatic. I'm doing good. Yeah, thanks for having me.

I am behind the wheel and just got done with the meeting at work. I'm going to run home,

get some lunch, let my dogs out and go back for another meeting from one to four.

What kind of car are you driving right now? It's not NASCAR.

It's not. I have a, I bought it in 2020. The all-new Nissan Maxi-MSR.

Very nice, very nice. That's a fast car. So how did you get into, I guess I was just

started to be getting like, how did you get into racing? I know a little bit about it,

like I don't know more on like the formula website where it's like you start in

carting and then you kind of work your way up. And it's very expensive to get into and like the

chances of becoming a professional and actually being able to make money are slim to none.

So I'm just curious how you got into it. So let's just start there.

Yeah, so actually that's how I started out. I started out carting. My dad was a drag racer.
