Summary

This talk was part of the Christian Home conference on June 23, 1993 in Twin Peeks, CA.
This recording is a result of our work digitizing over 600 cassette tapes of Elisabeth's talks. Each tape is decades old and the quality of the recordings varies quite a bit from tape to tape. As we preserve Elisabeth's legacy, we will share as much of her work as possible, even when technical issues affect the quality of the audio. Each talk is unique in content and tone. All are a blessing and encouragement.

Here's the first question. Could you speak about siblings fighting?

0:10.0

Older children, 11 and 14 years old, what to do? Well, my mother would put us separately

0:18.0

in different rooms and she would have a conference with each one separately,

0:22.9

and say, I want to know what you did. And almost invariably, we would start out with, well, he.

0:30.5

And she would stop us right there and say, I don't want to hear what he did. I want to know what you did.

So, of course, the two children didn't know what the other

0:38.1

one had said and she would usually come up with pretty close to the truth that way, whereas

0:42.8

if you had them together. There are various things you can do. I think that 11 and 14 are probably

0:50.2

beyond the spanking stage in most cases, but you have to think of other things, like

0:56.0

withholding dessert, making them go to bed earlier, taking away whatever it was they were fighting

1:03.0

over if it turned out to be some piece of equipment like a bicycle or something like that, nobody gets to use it.

1:09.0

I really don't know what to tell you.

1:11.2

It's a matter of establishing the authority of your word

1:14.0

and deciding what is an appropriate punishment

1:15.9

for the appropriate crime,

1:19.0

or what is the punishment appropriate for that particular crime.

1:22.6

And the same person asks,

1:23.9

what about married intimacy is making love all different ways, okay, according to God's

1:31.3

word? That is a tough question, and I really don't know what to tell you. I think the model,

1:41.1

the only model that we have of real physical intimacy is in the book of the Song of Solomon.

1:48.0

And that does give us a lot of leeway.

1:51.0

So I would say study the book, the Song of Solomon because it not only has spiritual application,
