Summary

In this episode, Drs. Ali, Georgoff, and Swenson share some big-time updates to our oral board simulator.  We've also included a full example test for you to listen to. What's new:
Massive Usage & Feedback: The Beta launch of the AI-powered oral board simulator has been a huge success, thanks to the incredible support and actionable feedback from the surgical community.  Your feedback has allowed for advanced fine tuning and a better user experience.

Next-Level Feedback: Your readiness score just got a whole lot more honest! The score is now a more accurate reflection of your performance and the number of the 362 testable conditions and procedures you've actually covered.

The Examiner Makeover: Experience a real-world test day with 20 different examiner voices (fast, slow, accented) to prepare you for any personality you might face.

Introducing your new study partners: Get ready for three game-changing features designed to elevate your training:

Coach: The ultimate study buddy! Ask it questions, and it will provide the right answers, identify your weaknesses, and walk you through scenarios (the opposite of the unhelpful examiner!).

OpGuide: Perfect for procedural review. Ask it how to perform a procedure (like a Whipple), and it will provide concise, board-appropriate surgical steps.

Wingman: Practice unfamiliar topics without the stress! It presents a patient stem, and if you're stuck, Wingman will answer for you in the first person, teaching you the topic as it goes.

The future is now!

Specialty Expansion: The simulator is coming soon to Vascular, Colorectal, Surgical Oncology, CT Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, and even OBGYN!

Platform Integration: Look out for a big makeover as the simulator is fully integrated into the Behind the Knife app platform for a seamless and beautiful user experience.

Listen to the end for a full scenario run-through and a detailed breakdown of the scoring to see the improvements for yourself!

Your feedback is CRUCIAL to making this the best simulator it can be. Please use the in-app feedback button or the link below to share your thoughts!

A few weeks ago, our team released the beta version of an oral board simulator, in which an AI

0:32.4

agent takes users through a scenario in real time and provides extensive feedback about

0:37.1

performance. First of all, thank you to all of our listeners. We've had an immense amount of support and feedback, and because of that, we've made many changes and are so excited about the future. Today, we wanted to take some time to talk about those changes in our plans, and to do so, I'm joined with Dr. Patrick Georgoff, co-director of Behind the Knife, and a trauma

0:55.7

and critical care surgeon at Duke, as well as Dr. Matthew Swenson, a general surgeon at Valley Health

System and Air Force Veteran, who is the creator of the oral board simulator. After the discussion,

1:05.8

we will play an example scenario so you can get a better sense of how it works. We'll also go

1:10.1

through the feedback from

1:11.2

that scenario. Thanks, Simon. We are super excited to talk about the simulator today. We've had a really

1:17.6

positive response, and it's literally getting better and better by the day. This is the way of the

1:24.2

future. This is going to be a very important part to how we prepare for the boards

1:28.0

and so much more. So again, we're really excited to talk about today and share some of the

1:32.1

improvements we have coming in the near future. Well, thank you, Iman. Thank you, Dr. Georgeoff.

1:37.9

I have been so impressed with the behind the knife community. We've gotten so much usage out of the simulator and so much actionable feedback.

1:47.7

Your audience demands high quality, but they're also kind.

1:51.1

So the feedback we have gotten has been both relevant and complementary.

1:54.4

We have done our best to respond to the feedback quickly and have thus made many improvements,

1:59.3

as you mentioned, sometimes daily.

2:01.6

Early feedback was for issues with the website itself, which were 100% related to the fact that this is beta and I am not a professional programmer.

2:10.6

As we worked out those bugs, however, the feedback is focused more on how the simulator itself performs and how we can improve the feedback and metrics

2:18.3

that users see after they complete their simulation.

2:22.4

Yeah, and thank you so much for all the work
