Hello or should I say hi, welcome, as today we're off to Norway, my birthplace,

and a country whose small population packs a big literary punch. We'll be celebrating the life

and work of one of Norway's greatest writers, admired for his writing as much as he's despised for his politics.

We get the lowdown on the burgeoning contemporary book scene,

and we'll be hearing from Norway's biggest export next to oil on how his writing life began.

But I think it inspired my wanting to be a writer,

wanting to be in such a world, create such a world

of feelings and sensation. I read, you know, hundreds and hundreds of books when I was a teenager

and I was a boy. This was a unique experience. It was very special. The world's most

expensive memoirist, Karl Ovo Knowsgard, we'll hear more from him later.

But first, just when you thought Scandy Crime might have run its course, up pops our next guest,

proving there's plenty of appetite left for bodies scattered in the pristine snow.

Norwegian artist, musician and playwright are now best-selling novelist Samuel Bjork published his international debut, I'm Travelling Alone, the chilling story of a series of child murders in 2013.

His portrait of a couple of downbeat gumshoes and their newly gathered team of investigators struggling against the clock to solve the ritualistic killings

of six-year-old girls, has subsequently become a bestseller in Spain, Germany and Italy,

and newly translated, looks set to follow suit in the UK.
