Hello, on today's program, we turn our backs on Nordic Noir and look to sunny South Africa

for the best in contemporary crime writing, with one of its greatest exponents, Mike Nicol.

And women may buy more books than men, but you wouldn't know it from the column inches their fiction gets.

Everything but the girl were big in the 80s, known for their alternative jazz-influenced pop,

and shot back to fame in the early 90s with that remix of missing.

I'm joined by one half of the duo Ben Watt, who's still recording, DJing and presenting on six music,

but more pertinently for us, has also found time to write a second memoir.

His first, patient, dealt with his harrowing

experience of a life-threatening illness in the 1990s. Now Romani and Tom focuses on his parents' lives,

looking back on their younger, glamorous days in 1950s London, in an attempt to understand

who the frail and sometimes infuriating elderly couple

relying on him for care now really are.
