Summary

We couldn't wait any longer to give you a hour-plus episode on the biggest news in sports this week. The Conference of Champions is effectively dead, thanks to conference realignment. So what's to become of the 18-team Big Ten and 16-team Big 12 in the college basketball landscape? What are the broader impacts? Why did it have to come to this? Gary Parrish, Matt Norlander and special guest Chip Patterson break it all down for you.

Today is August 5th, 2023, otherwise known as the day after the Pac-12 for all

0:35.4

intents and purposes died. RIP Conference of Champions because the Big 10 and the Big

0:40.4

12 have jointly killed it. The Big 10 has taken Oregon and Washington after

0:45.4

previously taking UCLA and USC. The Big 12 has taken Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and

0:51.2

Arizona State. All that's left is Stanford, Cal Washington State and Oregon State,

0:56.7

dead leg before we take this wherever we're going to take it. Just your thoughts on what

1:01.4

has been a historic few weeks in college athletics that culminated with the death of one of the

1:07.5

greatest or at least previously greatest and certainly oldest conferences in this country.

1:13.0

Yeah, more than a hundred years old. Conference of Champions is the Conference of

1:18.2

cancellation because even if for some reason the Pac-12, which is now the Pac-4, can maintain

1:27.1

its existence by recruiting other programs like it's not going to, it's not a power conference,

1:32.2

it's dead. Like what we know it to be is gone and this is a conference that has, yes,

1:36.6

extremely rich history. It's supremely depressing that we've reached this stage and yeah,

1:40.7

we've got a lot to get to. And yeah, I gotta be honest, like I, you know, the Saturday in the

1:46.1

dead of the college hoops off season, but this is such significant news. And Friday was so chaotic,

1:51.8

we couldn't get it to you earlier. We know a good portion of our audience wanted us to address

1:56.6

this. And to be honest, I'm about to do a quick, you know, it's a three, four day jaunt away
