One of the creators of Friends is apologizing for the show's lack of diversity and to make

amends, Marta Kaufman is pledging $4 million to the African and African American Studies

Department of her alma mater Brandeis University in Massachusetts.

And what this donation is going to do, she says the Marta F. Kaufman 78 Professorship

in African and African American Studies will assist in recruiting more scholars and

teachers, create long-term academic and research goals, and provide new opportunities for

students to engage in interdisciplinary scholarship.

And she was just honest.

She goes, I learned a lot in the last 20 years.

Admitting an accepting guilt is not easy.

It's painful looking at yourself in the mirror.

I'm embarrassed that I didn't know better 25 years ago because friends aired from 94

to 2004.

So she said, her way of redeeming herself is by funding a scholar in the University's

African and African American Studies Department, which is one of the oldest in the country.

How do you feel about something like that?

Like 20 years later, saying, yeah, you know what?
