John Floyd Thomas Jr. was born on July 26, 1936 in Los Angeles, California, and, after his mother died when he was just 12 years old, spent the rest of his life being raised by his aunt and godmother.

John, from what the research can tell, had a pretty normal childhood.

And in 1956, when he was of age, John joined up with the U.S. Air Force, served for a brief period of time,

and was stationed at Nellas Air Force Base in Nevada.

After being dishonorably discharged, John was arrested for burglary and attempted rape back home in L.A.

He was convicted of both crimes and sentenced to six years in prison in 1957.

It seemed like, as far as most were concerned, John kept his head down and his nose clean for the next four or so decades.
