The The late 80s and early 90s saw a decline in horror in mainstream cinema, but arise in psychological

thrillers. Films like Manhunter, Fatal Attraction, Basic Instinct and The Silence of the Lambs

were all regarded as somewhat more prestigious because they starred A-list actors and avoided

the horror stamp. But they were still basically horror movies. Another two films,

one made in 1987, the other in 1990, also had the basic plot mechanics of a procedural detective thriller and both movies

starred Oscar-winning actors like George C Scott and Robert DeNiro. However, both movies

were of course far more than simple cop thrillers, and both movies

descended into out and out satanic nightmares. He is inside with us. He will never get away.
