This is a CBS on the world. I'm John Bachelor. The former president, Donald Trump, and

courtrooms. We go to the courtroom most recently of a civil case against the former president and his business practices in New York.

The decision made by Judge Engeron, and the decision now moves to the phase where to appeal Mr. Trump and his organization must place a

near half a billion dollar cash presentation or else. I welcome Professor Richard Epstein of the Hoover Institution

writing most recently defining ideas about this case and the question of

evidence of harm.

Professor, a very good evening to you.

My memory of these civil cases is that Mr. Trump

exaggerated parts of his asset base, notably again and again the size of his

apartment on Fifth Avenue, but other exaggerations. The case went oddly to me because it was decided first and then

heard it reminded me of Alice in Wonderland but in any event by the end the

judge decided to level a penalty that seems completely

overwhelming. Mr. Trump is now asking to post a hundred million dollar

bond which seems large in order to go through the

appeals process and that is being rejected most recently by the attorney

general Letitia James and by the court.

Mr. Trump's attorneys make the argument again and again there's no evidence of harm in this penalty. is that Judge Engeron says

penalty directed against Mr. Trump.

The counter from the court, and I follow your defining ideas piece,

is that Judge Engeron says it's necessary to maintain an

honest workplace. Good evening to you professor. Yes this is an honest
