New York Hotels, part of a wonderful opportunity for a family, for a young people to spend a weekend at a

New York hotel go to the theater and enjoy yourself and have wonderful memories.

Not no more. I welcome Professor Richard Epstein at the Hoover Institution, a senior

fellow. He teaches law at NYU, New York City, and the University of Chicago. And his defining ideas piece introduces me to something I did not know was going on.

The New York City Council has found a way to make New York hotels suffer.

Suffer for inspections,

inspections, especially directed at those hotels,

400 of which are non-union.

Richard, a very good evening to you, thank you for this.

The New York City Council is doing its best to act like the Sacramento legislature,

finding things that it can interfere with in order ostensibly to make money for New York.

But on the other hand, it's mighty, mighty suggestive that it's the non-union hotels they're most interested in inspecting.

There's a quote in your piece that tells the story.

This is the president and CEO of the Hotel Association of New York City,

Vijade Danda Powne. He says, this is like a nuclear bomb.

It will destroy a major segment of the industry. This is a bizuka to kill a gnat.

Why is he so excited, Richard? Good evening to you.

Because he understands what's going on and it turns out the woman who was in

charge of this proposal named Julie Menon, is certainly somebody who, shall we say, is in the pocket of,

or at least appears to be in the pocket of the Hotel Trades Council.

Nobody knows for sure.
