Well, John, the reason I brought up Castro in this column is because I think that you have to, in observing the Cuban revolution, it's very important to go back to what was promised to the Cuban people.

Of course, he was waging a guerrilla war in the mountains of eastern Cuba, and he said that he was an anti-communist.

He said he believed in free speech, and he promised that once he overthrew dictator Batista, he would hold elections.

None of those things happened.

Not only did they not happen, but he proceeded to destroy all the wealth in Cuba and it was

actually quite a wealthy country.

So the lesson there is that, you know, the promises of socialists are

always in forever, far away from what they actually deliver. And something similar happened in

Argentina with Juan Perron and something similar happened with, of course, Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.

So the point here is that Zora Mandami is talking when he goes out to talk to people.

He talks all about affordability, dignity, what New Yorkers deserve.
