Live from NPR news, I'm Lakshmi Singh. The Trump administration shows no sign of dropping its desire to take over Greenland.

After a meeting today with Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Foreign Minister of Denmark, of which Greenland is an autonomous territory, says fundamental differences remain.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Loke-Rasmussen says the meeting at the White House followed

what he called a number of remarkable comments by President Trump on wanting to acquire

Greenland, a semi-autonomous region of Denmark, even if by force.

Rasmussen agrees that Arctic security is important, but not at any price.

And of course we have to respond to this.

The big difference is whether that must lead to a situation where U.S. acquire Greenland,

and that is absolutely not necessary.

Rasmussen says Denmark is open to an increased U.S. presence in Greenland.

He says during the Cold War, the U.S. had 17 military installations there.

Now it has one.

A high-level working group is due to meet again in a few weeks to continue talks.

The administration plans to stop processing visa applications from foreign applicants

that suspects will require public assistance to live in the U.S.

The State Department has identified 75 countries, including Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, and Somalia.
