It's been my word of the day every day as I'm riding city bikes back and forth to hospitals

and back and appointments and back.

We will be able to talk about city bikes at some point and the wheels on those. But the wheel I'm referring to is a thing you do in spring

training that everybody is despondent to practice until you need it. It's called the wheel play.

If you've not played baseball before or you've played and you don't remember because you didn't have Harry Bald as your coach

as a freshman where you have to learn every play, every possible movement of every possible

position player in every possible circumstance and pass the test before you can put on the damn uniform if you

haven't done that the wheel plays when there's a man on first and second or second doesn't matter

but let's just call first and second and there's a bun and the wheel plays when the man on

the third baseman and the first baseman the the two men playing first and third base, they run toward the batter.

So much so that I'm going to get to you with what we tell our offense to do if the wheel plays too exaggerated.

But the third baseman rushes to home plate, The first baseman rushes to home plate.

The shortstop goes to third base.

The second baseman goes to cover first base.

And the center fielder, depending on who your outfielers are,

will run in if there's a play at second base.

The wheel play is done in order to combat a bunt.
