And I'm Jeff Bennett. On the news hour tonight, Democrats dominate election night, as economic

anxieties and discontent with President Trump's leadership weighed heavily on Republican candidates.

The Supreme Court hears arguments in a case questioning whether the president overstepped his

authority when he imposed tariffs on nearly every country in the world.

And it's now the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

Tonight, we speak with House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries about why Washington remains at an

impact.

People are suffering all across the country.

We need a bipartisan path forward to reopening the government.

In the first major election since President Trump's return to office, Democrats celebrated wins from coast to coast.

New York City's next mayor will be Democratic socialist Zoran Mamdani. And two moderate Democrats, Mikey Cheryl and Abigail Spanberger,

will be the next governors of New Jersey and Virginia, respectively. Other wins went beyond the big

races. In Pennsylvania, voters kept three Democrats on the state's Supreme Court. In Albany,

they elected the city's first black mayor. All told, the elections made history in many ways and were very much a referendum on Mr.

Trump and his policies.
