And the F.F.N. In the summer of 2020, a young would-be author moved into the flat that I was living in.

He was working on a book, he told me, a history that would be told by living subjects exploring the lives of black gay men in a particular area of South London at a particular point in the latter half of the 20th century.

It'll be a landmark work I immediately said. Four years and

one eviction later and I'm happy to be proved right. Revolutionary acts, love and

brotherhood in Black Gay Britain by Jason Ocandier is now on the shelves of bookshops around the UK.

It's a social history, researched in a social manner via long conversations with the seven gay black men who are the

protagonist of the book.

It's a brilliant work if I say so myself, digging into the lives that sit at particular

intersections of politics and society via gossip, rumor,

and tenacious archiving work.

I'll start with a really easy question.

How did you first come up with the idea for revolutionary acts?

So when I was at university way back in 2017 I was in my

final year and I wanted to write a dissertation about HIV rates amongst black men

who have sex with men in Britain.

And I was trawling through the internet because I really wanted to include some history

about the AIDS crisis related to black men in Britain.
