Once upon a time, online politics were relatively marginal.

Clictivism was condemned as meaningless or ineffective in the real world.

In little chambers of their own making, people developed niche ideologies with little bearing on mainstream politics.

It was all quite detached from real life.

Those criticisms might still be true, but now the internet has fully swallowed politics.

There is no longer a gap between the online and the offline world that blended together.

In Navarra's coverage of the American election, we spoke time and again to people whose

ideas seemed more like online content than like political ideology.

But isn't that all of us now?

I wanted to understand how the internet had invaded politics, and in doing so had made fringe

ideologies go mainstream, arguably ultimately winning Donald Trump with the American presidency.

To do that, I spoke to Joshua Citarella, an artist, political theorist and podcaster, whose

current project Doomskroll investigates these phenomena with a sympathetic and forensic eye.

I'm Richard Hames and on this episode of Navarra FM, I sat down with Joshua Citarela

to talk about the privatization of everyday life, whether or not the Democrats will ever be able

to reflect on this bloodbath of a defeat, and of course what it might actually take to gain

power in this new mirror world.
