All right, Brian, in part three of today's show here on the Irish Breakdown podcast,

brought to by our friends over at Fanduil. We're about the Notre Dame defense and special teams, kind of at the end of this segment. And we are sticking with the trend, talking about portal needs, very similar to the offensive side of the ball, folks. We're not talking about specific players that they should go out and get in the portal. This is more looking internally at Notre Dame and what some of their needs are

based on the roster current state. Now, things are subject to change. The portal doesn't open until

January 2nd. There will be names outside of the program and then obviously names within the program

of people who are going to be jumping into the portal. We don't know what those are. So as of today on

December 15th, we're working on the assumption that if the

roster maintains where it's at right now, what are some areas that they should dip into the portal?

And it's a very interesting conversation with this defense. I think it's a little bit more

interesting. Well, maybe not interesting. Isn't it the best word? It's not as cut and dry as the

offense because the defense rotates so much.

Unlike on offense where you just have your starting boundary or you have your starting offensive line on defense, you rotate a bunch of guys on the D line.

They've historically rotated a bunch of guys at linebacker and on the back end of the

defense as well.

So much more of a different conversation because numbers wise, you put out that scholarship

chart on boards that Irish breakdown.com.

I was taking a look at that last night and then made a spreadsheet with some stuff earlier this morning.

So very interesting to take a look at the numbers of what Notre Dame has coming back.

The interesting thing about this entire conversation, Brian, is it goes back to our point in point one.

This has nothing to do with talent.

Does Notre Dame have to go to the portal to get more talented guys?

That is not an issue that they have, especially not on defense.

The defensive roster is extremely loaded.
