We are talking about the biggest concerns and the biggest reason for optimism.

We're kind of taking a look at this offense defense, and then within that, we're kind of breaking it down with some position groups.

Now, last week we talked about some of the biggest questions.

This is a little bit different of a conversation because some questions will just kind of

naturally get answered. These are kind of the concerns heading into the off season.

And I think that some of them are pretty valid. Now, like I said, we don't want this all to be

doom and gloom. So we are going to talk about reasons for optimism. And sometimes with the quarterback position where we're going to start, sometimes it's twofold. Like the reason for optimism can almost be kind of like why you're concerned to a degree. And I'll explain what I mean here in a second. But now that the season's over and we're starting to get a better idea of who's going to stay, who's going to come back,

who's going to leave. We kind of wanted to have just an overview discussion about some of the

areas for concern. And like I said, we're going to start with the quarterback position here, Sean.

And we're going to start with some of the concerns. The concern is not with C.J. Carr as a

player. We got to see the type of talent that he was this year.

And we know that there's room to grow. Now, this is a double-sided coin. We talked last week about how, hey, this is Notre Dame's first returning starting quarterback since 2020, when Ian Book returned from 19 to 20.

But you and I were talking when we were game planning for this show,

and it's been even longer since a second year starter at Notre Dame didn't regress.

That is something that I find to be somewhat troubling.

Now, this is a different coaching staff.

We don't know how this is how Marcus Freeman is going to handle a returning quarterback.

But what would you say is the last starting quarterback at Notre Dame that took another step in the positive direction in their second year as a starter? Jimmy Claussen?
