He says, what is it that makes Notre Dame's post-2016 defense so consistent,

even as players and coaches come and go?

I mean, well, for starters, they're attracting talent at a much higher level.

The defensive coordinator hires post-2016 have been fantastic.

You know, you go from Mike Elko to Clark Lee to Marcus Freeman to Al Golden.

And right now, Chris Asch just has an incomplete grade.

Right.

But I've said this all offseason.

Look, he would, with the talent that's on this roster and who the head

coach is, he would have to purposely call the wrong place for Notre Dame's defense to be

2016 bad.

Like he would have to purposely line up in goal line formation on first and 10 from the

opponent's 25 for it to not be good.

You know, and so I think who they have driving the bus on the defensive side of the ball plays a huge, huge factor in that.

And their talent acquisition has gotten significantly better post-2016.

Not that it was bad before, but now there's more, the talent is more diverse throughout the defense.

Because, you know, in 2015, hey, you got Jalen Smith.

Then you got Joe Schmidt, high IQ guy, try hard, high motor, but limited athletically.

You know, and then, you know, you've even seen it in other seasons.

But first and foremost, it's the coordinators, and then it's also the talent around it,
