Everybody thinks they know the Beatles, but how much do you really know?

We are going to talk today about something at the very end of the Beatles' existence, namely

January the 3rd, 1970. On the first weekend of the new year of the new decade, Paul, Georgian

Ringo went into Abbey Road Studio 2, and with George Martin behind the production desk,

they cut a new Beatles song, I Me Mine, the last one.

And then the following day they finished off the Let It Be song, and then they were done.

And this session always looked like an outlier.

It had been four months since all four of them had been in a recording studio together

when they finished up Abbey Road the previous August.

So in this podcast,

we're going to look at the timeline of events between August 69 and January 1970 and ask,

you know, were the Beatles really finished? This session as an outlier, could it have pointed

a direction for them continuing on in the 1970s? I have to admit, you know, when I first heard about this session,

it always looked like an odd one out this January 1970 session. Yes. As you say, it had been

several months since they've been in the studio. Really, this was dictated by the fact that the

release date was looming for the film, let it be. the song i'me mine appears in the film and so they

needed a studio run through uh that they could add uh to the soundtrack um so they would it was really a

session that was forced on them by the uh the release date of the film yes and there's certain
