The FBI this morning conducted a search on the Maryland home in D.C. office of John Bolton,

former national security advisor during President Trump's first.

Obviously, today we're discussing

the FBI raid at John Bolton's house and office. No one is above the law. FBI agents on a

mission, FBI director Cash Patel said in a post to X shortly after the raid began. The investigation

into Bolton seeks to determine whether he illegally

shared or possessed classified information. Sound familiar? Yeah, the irony isn't lost on anyone.

Let's kick things off with law professor Rory Little talking to K-CBS about what happened.

What safeguard should we expect were in place?

Well, presumably these searches happened under the federal rule, which permits district

court judges or magistrates to issue search warrants based upon a showing of probable cause

that a criminal violation may have been committed.

And search warrants are not uncommon, but they are protected by, hopefully, judges, reviewing the

affidavits of the law enforcement people who ask for the warrants, you know, carefully.

Presumably there's a warrant here issued by a judge in Maryland, which has jurisdiction

to issue a search warrant that covers DC as well, if it's the same set of facts. You know, based on

probable cause that there may be classified documents in the home or office of this former, you know,

high-ranking federal official.

The irony of this, of course, is three years ago, almost exactly three years ago.
