Something that I think about a lot is where is this deconstruction, postmodernism, rip it all down,

tear down all the systems, where is this going? So people are deconstructing from religion for

totally valid reasons. But the problem is that these myths are carrying helpful tools for society,

right? Rituals, story, moral education, service, spiritual community,

transcendence, even just the tool of imagining a God, imagining something perfect and working

towards it, calendars, sermons, all this stuff. And every time a new secular community pops up

and tries to do all that good stuff without the myth, it doesn't last.

There's nothing holding these people together. You need myths to do that. So the generation that's

deconstructing is usually going to be fine, but the generation after is in trouble. Because if we are

wired for cults and for religion and for myths and for the transcendent, and there's no religion, what fills in that gap can be worse. So, especially in this case, materialism or political religions.
