| 0:00.0 | One more edition of running back previews here for the NFL draft on Fantasy Football Today and Five. |
| 0:05.1 | We might get to talk about some NFL backs as well right now. |
| 0:08.6 | And I'm Adam Azer. I'm joined by Emory Hunt once again as we're breaking down some of the top running back prospects in the NFL draft. |
| 0:16.2 | And so as I teased on the Thursday episode, Emery, there's some big names, some more household names in this preview, starting with number, I think number nine for you, Trace Sermon out of Ohio State, and then Giovante Williams out of UNC, Kylin Hill out of Mississippi State, Chuba Hubbard comes in 12th for you, specifically with Williams and Hubbard, if we look at this group of running backs as a whole, but specifically with Williams and Hubbard, you know, Williams I've seen in the top five, maybe as high as three for some people. You have them 10th. Hubbard was getting, you know, Heisman buzz. Are you lower on them than the industry? I know you are with Williams. Are you also lower on Hubbard than a lot of people? Yeah, I'm a lower on both. And mainly because of the same reason, it's vision. |
| 0:56.6 | I think their vision is just about average or adequate, you know, not necessarily a knock, |
| 1:01.3 | but definitely an area where they have to get better. |
| 1:03.8 | And for Williams, in conjunction with his vision, I don't like how he constantly |
| 1:09.2 | has to take on contact. |
| 1:10.8 | Like, you know, there's no 18 or 19 year olds in the NFL. You can't run into everybody. So you're going to have to make guys miss. Jerome Bettis talked about this when he was with the Rams going from L.A. to Pittsburgh. He had to learn how to make people miss. And he was able to do that. That's why he had such a long career. for Chuba Hubbard, his vision, and I think this is a byproduct of the high school football and the era of football that we're in, where these guys are running a lot of Zonri, where these holes are gaping holes. So he's hitting the hole at full speed without having to make a decision, and he's outrunning everybody. but when he has to make a decision or has to be his own blocker, so to speak, or find a lane, he can be a little bit hesitant pre-line of scrimmage, causing him to get tackled. So working his vision, getting better in that regard, I think that's an area where he's going to have to get it better because he has a home run hitting speed you want, but the vision part for both guys is where I am lower on them the most. And CBS Sports Prospect Rankings does have Giovante Williams third, but not very high on Chuba Hubbard, I think somewhere around 13th, just like Emery has him. All right, talk to me about Trace Sermon out of Ohio State. His footwork is classic. It's like having a glass of wine and listen to jazz music when you watch him operate. I put in my notes, he has feet like Ampley. You know, and you mean, I remember Ampley, but he was a dog at Florida State and was outstanding in the NFL. His footwork was tremendous. and I think when you combine that with the vision of Trey |
| 2:35.5 | Sermon, you get a really good back that does a great job in finding lanes and finding space. |
| 2:40.2 | Now, he may not be the most explosive dynamic runner, which is why I compared him to T.J. Yeldon, |
| 2:45.8 | who I thought was solid coming out of Alabama. |
| 2:48.4 | So I do think Sermon can be a perfect back for a situation that calls for two starters. |
| 2:55.7 | So you look at a spot, let's say like how Cleveland operates with Hunt and Chubb. |
| 3:00.3 | If he can go to a place where, let's say he goes to New Orleans, where he's running with Kamara and himself, that's a great situation. |
| 3:08.6 | Kind of like how Indy does with Jonathan Taylor and Nahim Hines. |
| 3:12.3 | I see him being a code number one in someone's split backfield. |
| 3:15.9 | Is he the big bruiser in this scenario? |
| 3:19.9 | I think, you know, that's a good question. |
| 3:21.4 | I think he's more of the finesse guy, although he showed in the playoffs that he can lower that shoulder. |
| 3:27.4 | But I do think he's more of the guy that can make you miss. |
| 3:30.9 | He's more of the chunk play guy because his receiving skills, I think, is top notch as well. |
