I'm Tom Batsch with my colleague Professor Evan Ellis, Latin American Research Professor

at the U.S. Army War College Strategic Studies Institute.

Professor, I read, fresh to me, the Union of South American Nations, acronym UNISOR,

met earlier this year in springtime.

Well, South American countries gathered in Brasilia, this was a Lula de Silva initiative.

Brasilia welcomed and hosted the meeting.

And it is looking right now like something new, except for there are organizations that

already exist that have been disappointed over these last years.

Perhaps the pandemic, perhaps the change in politics, perhaps what is called the pink

tide.

For example, the community of Latin American and Caribbean states, CLAC, or OAS, the organization

of American states, which is more than 100 years old.

So what does UNISOR represent?

How does it fit into CLAC, into OAS, and because we're speaking of BRICS, what does this mean

for BRICS?
