Nicholas Maduro, the backstory,

Nicholas Maduro, the all-powerful, not recognized as legitimate president of Venezuela,

making moves, claims, remarks, presentations that indicate there is interest, great interest,

in either annexation or in some way forcing bargaining between powerful and large Venezuela and

tiny and not powerful Guyana, the neighbor, once upon a time British Guiana.

It is now an independent state, has been for some time on the

Atlantic coast. However, within these last years, discovery of light sweet crude 11 billion barrels or more off the shore of

Giana promises great prosperity for the people and for the region.

Venezuela which has its own abundance of oil is not light sweet

crude oil, it's heavy oil that the US has constructed refineries to process. However, the breakdown in relationship between Washington and Caracas these many years

has led that to be a debatable point. In the meantime, there's an election so-called set for this year.

Maduro is a candidate.

So is a Ms. Machadoo who has won the opposition's nomination

to face off Maduro. She has been ruled by Maduro and the courts

as illegitimate, not acceptable. She can't run. That is a problem for Washington.
