Reuters headline, Peru seeks to avoid arbitration over Chinese-built

Megaport. There's a picture of a vast area carved out what appears to be a shoreline and large excavators standing and constructing this mega port.

The Peruvian government is looking to avoid an international arbitration process which could be filed by Chinese port operator, Costco shipping, over a legal dispute regarding exclusivity rights to a massive facility being built by the firm.

Professor, you have indicated to me this is a good example of what the America's

Act is meant to address.

Megaport sounds like the Chinese made a deal.

This is probably an example of the types of web of commercial but also political and in other types of

influences that come with that Chinese economic engagement. One of the times

things you see in case after case is that oftentimes there is a lack of transparency

also that the Chinese are able to implement the contracts that allow them to have the upper hand in terms of the conditions of employment and payment and things like that.

We've seen this again and again and again.
