This is the new world report I'm John Batchewith, Ernesto Aruja, former foreign

minister of the Republic of Brazil, and Joseph Omar, the executive director of Secure Free Society,

just to note here at the end a surprise poll. And I ask Ernesto's help to interpret this.

Brazilian president Lula De Silva, who left office with record popularity in 2010,

is not doing so well in his new term. His approval ratings are slipping steadily,

despite some recent good news on the economic front. The number of Brazilians who rate his

government is greater, good is dropped to 37%. Those who see his government as bad or very bad

risen to 28%. Ernesto, polls are always puzzling to me because they seem a moment in time.

Lula De Silva has been operating internationally for these last weeks. Is he not paying attention

to the home team? We have about a minute.

Yes, I think he's focusing so much abroad because of his popularity at home.

Lula is far less popular than the international press would give the idea of.

Economy is improving a little, but it's improving for the markets, not for the real people,

for the people in the streets, inflation, lack of jobs, I mean unemployment.

So, and Lula is much more popular with the press than with the real people. That's the idea.
