I'm John Batchett with Joseph Humar and Ernesto Aruja.

We're speaking of what we can see in the video from the border and what we learn in conversations

with people who are there.

For example, in El Paso, I learned over these last days from colleagues that someone,

generously, is constructing a camp, a holding camp for migrants coming across who may or may

not be on their way to other parts of America, a very large facility that didn't exist before.

At the same time, there's routine reporting of gang-land activity along the border.

This is what Joseph has talked about about weaponizing migration.

Joseph, it's not one or two bad actors.

It looks to be a sophisticated operation that employs or uses the migrants, the flow of young

people and young men and young women and babies as cover for their operations of moving drugs,

fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, cash, guns, and gang members back and forth across the border.

That's what I gleaned from reading the U.S. Border Patrol's Captain Rull Ortiz.

Has that been going on for some time?

Is that worse now that there's so many migrants to mask that activity?

John, this is certainly getting worse.

We've heard a lot about the Mexican drug cartels and their cross-border illicit activities

that they have in major states like Texas, Arizona, California, and others.

I think this is part of this systematic disintegration of a sovereign border.

In this case, our sovereign border.

When border capacity is diminished and your government authorities don't no longer have

the ability to attend to the massive rates of migration, it creates territories that
