I welcome Professor Evan Ellis of the U.S. Army War College Strategic Studies Institute to comment on the New World Report.

The Americas, during the transition between the Biden administration with weeks to go, and the Trump administration, Trump 2,

we begin with what looks to be a significant headline from Reuters reporting under the Americas column.

The story reads like this with a huge picture of people being detained.

Mexican authorities detained more than 5,200 migrants across the country on Tuesday,

in other words, 48 hours passed.

And they commented on that Wednesday, 24 hours passed.

And a major sweep, says Reuters, as the nation is under pressure from the incoming U.S. government

to crack down on arrivals at the U.S. Mexico border.

I note that Canada has also reacting to remarks by the President-elect.

Most importantly, a trip by the Prime Minister of Canada, Mr. Trudeau, tomorrow

and I'll go to discuss the border issues. I do not believe the migrant flow from Canada

is anywhere close to what we see from Mexico,

but in any event, Canada is adjusting its rules-based order about who is and who is not an

acceptable refugee seeking sanctuary. There is also the USMCA coming up in 2026, so somewhere between now and then

there's a lot of negotiation underway with the new president in Mexico City.
