I'm John Batch with my good colleague, Professor Evan Ellis. Good news is not what we have a lot of,

but we do have it. Mexico and Argentina. Let us begin with Mexico because at the center of many of the

disputes to do with tariffs is the disputes to do with migration and with what is to be done about drugs, especially

the allegation by the Trump administration and supported by evidence in all instances,

including the Biden administration, that Mexico is the source of the fentanyl drug,

which is linked to China, but I pursue the story of President Scheinbaum rather than China.

President Scheinbaum, a technocrat when she came into office as mayor of Mexico City,

a very large city that worked on time, has since then become extremely adept at the diplomacy necessary to deal with the U.S., the allegations,

migration, her own region, her own economy.

And the economy is reported positive here for a quarter.

So I don't slight any good news whatsoever out of Mexico.

What is your measure of Clodier Scheinbaum, what, six or seven months into her administration? You cannot be reelected,

so she serves for a few more years. How does she measure, Professor? Well, John, in my personal

evaluation, Claudia Scheinbaum has been a very adept technocrat, who has also turned out to be

very skillful in her relationship, but with the

United States, administratively, she has done a lot of really smart things, although those smart

things are also raising a lot of red flags in terms of the expansion and consolidation of power

by her Morena party in not only political affairs, legislative affairs, now a, you know,

control over the Mexican judiciary with at least at the first phase of the judicial elections

to replace appointed judges with elected judges, which are, you know, almost to a person, judges

as part of the Morena party list. So, you know, judges that are, are, you know, almost to a person, judges are part of the Morena party list. So, you know,
