It distance itself from the United States because of culture, because of gunplay, because of immigration,

because of drugs, and now because of spying.

Professor, the news from Reuters is that Amlo, the very popular and powerful president of Mexico,

is complaining about the U.S. surveillance.

The headline is revelatory.

Mexico president accuses Pentagon of spying vows to restrict military information.

Is this a fresh problem due from the release of what we have so far of the leaked documents about surveillance around the world?

Or is this been a longstanding issue for Mexico that America looks over the shoulders of its leadership?

Well, John, at a broader level up, Mexico has certainly always been sensitive to the security role that the U.S. has played.

We have to recall, of course, that places like Texas and California are once a part of Mexico when you talk about the U.S. Veracruz expedition

or a general person's punitive raids in Mexico going after Ponta V.

Mexico has long had the historic grounding for talking about the great threat to its security from the North.
