We go to Ecuador, the election process underway, choices being made in the first round.

The background of this, of course, is gunfire, not only the assassination of a mayor on

the shoreline of Ecuador.

Remember, this is a country between two major drug producers, and the drug, narco-terrorism

violence in Ecuador has been routine these last weeks, even during the election cycle.

And then the murder of Viva Vincencio, the reformist candidate who was an outstanding

and aggressive journalist about exploitation of the Ecuadorian people for many years.

He is now gone.

The investigation underway, although there's no resolution right now, there was a stand-in

for him for his party, who did very well in this first round of voting.

I believe place third.

But, Joseph, I come to you, Viva Vincencio's death has it been investigated thoroughly

to your understanding.

I know they say the investigations underway, they arrested six Colombians.

But where is the investigation going, because six gunmen do not explain an assassination

like that?

No, absolutely, it does not, John, the investigation is ongoing as I understand it.

They found more implications or evidence that suggest that there was a plot that was hatched

from abroad, not just the six Colombians, but I think one of the weapons came from Peru.

So they're looking at external angles on how this assassination plot could have come

...
