I'm John Bachelors with my colleagues and friends, Rnesser, former Foreign Minister of

the Republic of Brazil, Joseph Uma, our Executive Director,

Secure Free Society, Chile, the headlines are frightening, but this is Nature

reporting, Nature magazine, the peer-reviewed magazine, Extreme Fire Weather in Chile, driven by climate change in El Nino's southern

oscillation.

This is an El Nino year, everywhere globally, and it changes the weather for every continent but right now

we're looking at drought in Chile and then drought in the Amazon with pictures of

the river just disappearing with devastating with that's reduced the Panama Canal to the point that they have to

transship containers from the Pacific to the Atlantic or vice versa by train

and then reload them on the container ships.

Ernesto, I come to you on this because the drought in Brazil is in a part of Brazil that is not

vital to the economy, but certainly vital to those who celebrate the Amazon's success and

now these wildfires in Chile have killed more than a hundred people and they're sweeping

across the continent so this is not just about bad actors in the Amazon

deforesting. This is about something that's happening profoundly right now.

To your understanding, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia has been hit by drought, certainly

the upper Amazon has been hit by drought.

They're talking about raising money for it.

Are they, is this a big story back home

Ernesto do people talk about these droughts as something we've got to get used to

and not one-offs? Well John not not right now actually in, it's not that big of a story with so much happening in the political dimension.

I think the reporting about climate issues is totally politicized not only in Brazil but elsewhere.
