This is the New World Report I'm John Batcher with Ernesto Arujo, former Foreign Minister

of the Republic of Brazil and Joseph Oma, Executive Director of Secure Free Society.

I begin, gentlemen, by pointing to an article in Foreign Affairs published most recently

about the asylum system in the U.S., which, according to this article, is broken.

I certainly go along with the possibility this is by Julia Preston.

The asylum law that we're now dealing with was passed in 1980.

It was a concept of offering political refugees a haven if they were, for example, persecuted

by the Soviets or the Cuban administration of the Castro regime.

These many years later, the system is broken.

It's not working.

They're, according to this article in Foreign Affairs, there are 800,000 cases on the backlog.

800,000 takes in up to four years to adjudicate a case.

Last year was about 25 or 22,000 who were permitted to stay because of their claims.

26,000 were told that their claims are not legitimate or not recognized.

And yet, there's no mechanism to deport the people who have come here under false pretenses

or who are not enjoying the authority of the U.S.

Therefore, 800,000 people have reason to believe that they are not going to be deported.

We also are told by the Biden administration that they have an app now on your iPhone or

your smartphone.

You apply for asylum status through the app.

If you do not, you're not eligible for the asylum program.

And yet, Joseph, I come to you because of recent report from my colleague Michael Jan.
