The Americas are filled with controversy, especially now after this headline in the Financial Times, in these last hours.

Donald Trump threatens to impose 50% tariff on Brazil.

U.S. President accuses country of launching a, quote, witch hunt against former leader Jaya Bolsonaro.

I welcome the professor because this is a story that has two directions.

One is the tariffs on Brazil.

And right away, we have to go to the news from Brasilia, from Lula to Silva.

Brazil's Lula pledges reciprocity after Trump tariff announcement.

In other words, not waiting for consultation, immediately firing back the president of Brazil.

And the F.T. notes there was an emergency cabinet meeting sometime in the early hours of right now.

So Brazil is fully engaged on this idea of tariffs to punish Brazil for the former president and now president says that this has to do with the victimization, the lawfare used against the former President Bolsonaro in a prosecution case that has spilled out over many years to do with events following the election and events that were similar but not the same as January 6th protests the Capitol some years ago at the U.S. Capitol.

What we have now is no complete explanation, but the accusations have always pointed at Bolsonaro as part of the conspiracy to launch a protest slash coup slash assassination plot.

It grows in telling.

That prosecution has not gone forward.

At the same time, there have been repeated incidences of cases pressed against Bolsonaro and his family,

including his two sons. Why? I've been told

for some time it has to do with the election of 26. So I'm glad the professor is here because

we have two important tracks here, tariffs and the Bolsonaro family. Evan, it's good to have
