Welcome to a citations needed news brief. I'm Neem Ashrazzi. I'm Adam Johnson. We wanted

to chime in a little bit on the current discussion around what is oftentimes referred to or

always referred to as a government shutdown. And my esteemed co-host Adam Johnson has actually

done some excellent analysis of this term and has explained why it should not be used. Why

it itself has a very deliberate frame. Did you read article, I did it in the nation? Yeah, of course.

Okay, so you never, you never reads my articles, so I get very notes kicked. Of course. So anyway,

I was talking you up as Hull so no, no, no. So so in April of last year, April 2017, Adam wrote an article

for the nation had lined. It's not a government shutdown. It's a right wing coup. And so I actually

suggested that we talk this out in a news brief. Obviously retweeting the article is great,

but you know, not everyone reads and Adam, I'm sure nobody reads. Nobody reads nobody reads. Nobody reads.

I don't read it. And you know, and Adam certainly has a lot to say about this. And in the current context

of what's happening right now with the current news about the I shouldn't say it, but I'll say it.

Shut down. I thought we could we could kind of talk that out. Adam, what say you? Well, it first off,

the term government shutdown is a is a pretty is a pretty sinister propaganda term. And I know it

seems like I say everything is a propaganda term in the show, but it actually is. And the reason

why it is because the government doesn't actually shut down certain parts of the government shutdown.

And those parts are almost always blood exception, liberal parts of the government. So really what it

is when the government shuts down is a liberal government shutdown or to put it in more provocative

terms, it's a right wing coup or sort of soft coup. And this is something that the Democrats have

kind of gone a generally gone along with because the core axioms of the right wing government,

which is all the far right is everyone and to like have is the defense department and the activities
